Summertime And The Livin Is Easy!
Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:39AM
I had a visit with Diane Carroll, Editor In Chief of At Home In Arkansas yesterday. She was gracious enough to give me a copy of the June issue of the magazine hot off the press. Wow! Are you in for a treat!
I don't know about you, but as the weather heats up all I want to do is be near the water. As I shared earlier, here in Arkansas Life is So Good At The Lake. Yes, Summer sends all kinds of Arkansans in search of the water...to the lake or river for cool breezes and tranquil views. While easy summer living may be the goal, owners of waterfront homes show their style in a myriad of ways. At Home rounded up two top examples of how varied lakeside living can be,from a luxe, antique-filled villa in Hot Springs to a casually chic abode in Heber Springs. Despite the different decor, according to these homeowners the focus is the same: It's all about the views.
The first home is a Villa with a View on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs. Scott Paterek of Massimo followed the homeowners lead and designed the Mediterranean Italian palazzo style lake house. Lots of expansive windows, clean - lined upholstery, French Antiques, a varied art collection and a warm color palette. These are the elements that were used to create this amazing lake retreat.
I am crazy about this dining room. This is not the way we live at the lake , so it would never work for us on Greers Ferry, but I could move every single piece into my dining room at home. Just study this image for a while. The table with the marble top is off the charts. Paterek created the coral centerpiece on the table as an organic contrast to the more formal elements. Look at those chairs. Are the seats lavender velvet? The chandelier, the mirror, the iron sideboard, oh my! And I love the lamps. Gilded antique candelabras with custom smocked shades and trim. It just doesn't get any better than that. Is that a bird handle on the pitcher? The fabulous terra cotta bust, the beautiful urns with the cypress trees. As if this is not enough, try to take in the back drop. The floors are reclaimed barn wood and the wallpaper is a David Goldberg Design. I feel faint!

An incredible antique architectural element from Marshall Clements hangs over the bed.
I love the mirror. The other images in this collage are a little hard to see here. You will have to pick up a copy of the magazine so you won't miss a single detail.
Diane Carroll describes this next home as Beach-style Chic.
Kevin Walsh of Bear-Hill Interiors worked with the homeowners to design a home that feels very different from their primary residence in Little Rock. They chose a cool color palette of blues, creams and khakis. They used commercial grade fabrics that are durable and stain resistant and in some cases such as the dining room chairs, sunbrella outdoor fabric. They can literally wipe them clean with a damp sponge.
Love the brickmakers coffee table and those ottomans are great.
The blue glass and iron chandelier is fabulous! So is the large piece of contemporary art.
Very pretty, yet very functional.
This is all just wonderful. The bookshelves with the sailboats appear to be in a back hallway. Both bedrooms are very clever. Look at the floor in the bathroom. I love all the attention to details in these spaces.
The Master bedroom is so beautiful and has an incredible view of the lake. I love the lamp and the wonderful pillow. It is all so inviting.
I would certainly say that the living is easy in these two lake homes. What do you think? Do you have a favorite? Where do you plan to spend time cooling off this summer?

What a treat to check out your blog and find these images. Had a lovely afternoon touring your home, Mona, thank you for sharing your gorgeous place!
We all agreed this was an especially beautiful issue, and these stories really made it! Kevin Walsh and Scott Paterek did a wonderful job in these waterfront homes, which showcase two completely different styles.
There are so many things to love in these pictures. Speaking of feeling faint...my husband is all about symmetry, so he'd definitely be a big fan of the first pictures! Thanks for sharing & for calling attention to the details. Of course I had to go back to look at all the things you mentioned because I'd missed most of them! That's what makes you girls so good at what you do!
I am mentally preparing myself (it is raining hard right now...) for Summer. So beach chic is absolutely my melody right now. What a house, Mona! That home owner must be purring like a cat! All that light and the views! Stylish yet easy living. Very nice!
This will be my last comment for the weekend! I hope you get to enjoy yours!

Love these homes, they are gorgeous!!
I love all of these interiors...both relaxed with just a touch of elegance!
Can anyone provide information about the chandelier in the Foyer? To die for!

You've shared some things worth sharing. The rooms are exceptional, it made my day. I'm speechless.
I find it very relaxing and calm. The furnitures are simple but great pieces.
