Why Not?

I've wanted a new sofa in our family room every since we moved into our new house two years ago.

Our sofa was chocolate brown velvet and though I still like it, I'm working on lightening things up a bit. I love the look, but I'm not interested in going strictly neutral. For our home I prefer a mix with warm  contrasts. For me it's less trendy.

Sometimes it's hard to justify the expense of a new piece when there's really nothing wrong with what you already have.  However, strategic updates keep things fresh and from getting to that place where you stand and think...I just need to start all over...

My chocolate sofa...

Sooooo, that being said, I have a wonderful husband who really delights in pleasing me. One day in late August, I found this on my desk...

I had no idea what "Why Not" meant or what was in the envelope...

What a surprise...It was the cash to pay for my new sofa from Cobblestone and Vine.

I was thrilled to say the least, and got on the phone immediately to Anderson to have him mark it SOLD. The craziest part of the story...I just had it delivered this week. Can you believe that?

Other changes I've made have included moving some tables around from other parts of the house and recovering a chair and ottoman in a natural linen to replace the dark paisley chair and ottoman...I also changed out this lamp.

Before....

After...

I also added the thick cushions to the wondow seats on either side of the fireplace.

When I blog about being busy, I'm telling the truth. I just haven't had the time to deal with what to do with the other sofa, the delivery etc. Now that it's here...I'm so excited. Pillows are next...and I'm thinking of adding more color to the mantel arrangement for Spring. I'm not going to wait as long to finish up the details as I did to get the sofa delivered.

What do you think of the changes?

It's your turn.  Let's talk!

Mona-
The sofa is gorgeous. When I saw the before picture, I thought what a beautiful room, but the lighter color has opened up the room. It looks gorgeous! Such a nice husband. I love why you did with the chairs too. Talented lady.
Have a nice weekend.

Wonderful updates! I am re-doing as I speak.. kids in college and need a change. I've got lots of "old" furniture that is functional but out-dated. My husband is of the "if it works it doesn't need to be replaced" school of thought. I believe change is good and I guess I'm not as sentimental as he.. Have fun with your house updates and thanks for the inspiration!

Beautiful! Just stumbled across your blog and fell in love. Isn't is amazing how the purchase of one little sofa can set the whole room in motion? It's a domino affect!
- Have a great day

Mona, Your home looks beautiful. I love the new sofa and the chair you recovered. It lightens it up and gives the room a bigger feel. Before you only noticed the dark sofa, now your eye goes around the room and notices everything. Tell the hubby- I am impressed! What a sweet guy.

Hi Mona,

I think the sofa is beautiful and looks so lovely with everything else in the room. It all fits so nicely. I am curious about the new pillows and the mantle and what you will be doing with it.

Hope you are well!

Mona I love your sofa! And I'm with you I need to change the sofa in our family room from chocolate velvet but thankfully it's easy since it's slipcovered. Nice seeing Cappi in his chair he was such a handsome pup. I love your new lamp too I've been looking at lamps as I need more my home is to dark. Enjoy your weekend and I'll be emailing you tomorrow about the gates.

I adore the lighter color, and while I loved the chocolate, the lighter color brightens the whole room. What a sweetheart of a husband....don't you love wonderful surprises like that?!

It looks SO warm and inviting.
Now all you need is a little
snow falling outside the window....
Who needs spring?
Hope you are enjoying a
cozy and relaxing weekend!

Talk about busy... I'm just finding your post.

Beautiful tweaks! A home's decor should never be static!

We're finally having the cushions redone on our two bergeres.
Can't wait to have them back in action.
I miss my favorite spot!

Cheers,
John

Love the new sofa - understated, classic, elegant and lends the room an updated feel, as does the chair. What a thoughtful gesture from your husband!

This is some of the best images of blue and white I've ever seen. I just posted about blue and white and I've really always wanted to use more of it in my home. I loved your idea of incorporating a few pillows in blue and white to an existing color palate. My heart melts when I see blue and white rooms done well. Thank you!
