Organized by Design...Beginning In The Pantry...

Wouldn't we all love to have not only an organized pantry...but one that served multi functions...and was awesome looking too?

Leslie Sinclair owner of Segreto Finishes and author of two awesome books...

and a third book to be offered September 2015...

recently contacted us to be a part of a collaborative blog post challenge on the subject of organization...

We immediately thought of the pantry...One of our favorite spaces to plan...A wonderful pantry is well organized and can be so much more than just a space to store food....

No wonder then, when we take on either a new project from the ground up or kitchen re-model...we focus a lot of time on the pantry...

If space allows...we love to design a working pantry that not only serves as storage for canned goods, drinks, paper towels and the like...but can be used as a food prep and clean up area for both every day needs and entertaining as well..

This pantry is directly behind the main kitchen...

Dry goods are  tucked neatly behind doors...Easily accessed but out of sight.

Extra refrigeration is great...because lot's of work goes on in this pantry...

A small counter...with sink, disposal and dishwasher...additional storage for copper pots overhead...

So nice to just leave the mixer out on the counter ready to use...but not in the kitchen!

A stainless cart can be very versatile...almost a mini island in such a small space...

Yes this is awesome...

But we hear you...everyone doesn't have this much space...

We are really excited about a pantry we recently designed for clients that moved in last week.. The pantry is the only thing we've finished.

Of course...we had a deadline for this post.  Ha!

When we started this project a long ordinary walk in pantry was planned...Nothing special... The typical door...walk in and shelving down both sides.  Lucky for our clients it was not tiny.

That just spelled opportunity for us...

We had to do something wonderful with this space...and we did.

The pantry is right across the hall from the kitchen...

From the doorway of the kitchen you now look at this wonderful custom sliding door... if they even choose to close the pantry door...

If not...it still looks wonderful on the wall in the hallway...

Pretty awesome huh?

And when open?...

Not your average pantry...

A small prep sink...and lot's of counter workspace...Great when entertaining...

The heavy Kitchen Aid mixer can be left out and easily used...

Baking ingredients and supplies are conveniently stored right in the cabinet below...

Undercounter lighting is also nice in this space...

We love the coffee nook.  Again all the essentials for preparing morning coffee can be stored right under the counter in the cabinet below.  Cookbooks are also visible and convenient.

Plenty of canned goods and dry storage on the opposite wall that is perfectly organized but not in direct view...When the door is left open you don't see any of this side.  Baskets store potatoes and onions, as well as loose sauce packets, dip mixes etc.

The pantry is positioned perfectly... behind the kitchen, just a few steps away...This picture was taken from the pantry looking into the kitchen...

It's also right behind the laundry room...In fact it's open to the laundry room at one end...

The extra refrigerator is installed in an alcove in the laundry room...

You can enter the pantry at this end as well.  Entry to the laundry room from the garage makes it very convenient to unload groceries. The door is on the other side of the refrigerator.  Just a few short steps from the pantry with all the wonderful counter space, making it a breeze to bring groceries in and unload.

The laundry room...

It's pretty cool too!  Not your average broom closet. We loved the way it turned out.  Just need to find the perfect thing to go in the top arched shelf.

But back to the pantry...this is about being organized...

As if the open shelving for extra dishes, serving pieces, entertaining items, dry good and canned storage was not enough...

Just look at all of the extra long and deep drawers.  They are filled with placemats, napkins, candles...and additional serving trays and pieces...

This pantry is so organized...it makes every day living and entertaining really easy...
