Before and After...A traditional update!

It's fun to post a good Before and After project, because design enthusiasts love to see a great make-over. This is not a high budget job and is not yet complete but the difference is amazing...

A little background...

I'm missing a few good pictures particularly of the kitchen because its a narrow room and hard to get good pictures with a telephone...also missed out on the breakfast area but its not finished yet anyway...Drapery panels still to be hung...The dining room gets new window treatments as well...

Some before pictures...

Columns were removed...Pink marble replaced with hardwoods and re-finished through out the house.  Entire house was painted Benjamin Moore White Dove.

The mantel was replaced with a plastered surround and the television installed above.  A new rug and furnishings were brought in...

After picture of the fireplace...So much better...Love getting the television out of the corner.

Big changes to the bookshelves and  fireplace mantel in the living room too.  Removed all of the fluted trim and added a larger profile to the legs and top of mantel.  Then textured and faux finished to look like cast stone...Lovely.  You can't tell the difference.  One of the secrets to the authentic look is the architecture of the mantel itself.  It has to have dimension and similar lines to a cast stone piece...but this is so easy to achieve.

Durock cement board was used for the surround and hearth.  Its a heat resistant product that can be used in this application.  Then texture was applied and faux finishing.

So clean and beautiful.

Some before and after  images...

Need to learn to shoot more after shots at the same angle as the before shots to illustrate the changes better...But who has time to remember all of that???

The sofa end tables were ordered but not in when this picture was taken...

Remember there is a table missing at the end of the sofa in the after picture...

Hate it I don't have more kitchen pics...We gutted it.  The hood turned out beautiful  and is finished just like the one we did in the Southern Living idea house last Spring...Picture below..

We used Taj Mahal quartzite for both the counters and backslashes...Gorgeous...The island is painted Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray.

For the dining room...Window panels aren't hung yet...a wonderful wide silk stripe...

The living room...love the lighter transitional look...

Just changing the pillows makes a huge difference...

More work needed here...This project is not complete...

What do you think so far?

It's your turn.  Let's talk!
